Hi guys. I currently have a 100 litre tank with about 11 guppys. I have decided to buy a smaller tank off my friend so i wondered how i transfer my current fish into the new tank for example do i have to clean the filter of the new tank or just run my current filter along side it etc. Shall i use the water that is in my current tank? I am really unsure. Thanks in advance.

How big is the tank you are moving to? Is it up and running and properly cycled? What fish are in that tank?

Will you still have fish in the 100 litre? if not just move the filter over to the new tank, if you still need the filter for the 100 you can take up to a third of the media & put in the new filter & monitor the water closely until the bacteria catches up with the bioload

I am moving from a 100 litre to a 60 litre. I am not sure what fish he has had in the tank or how well it was cycled.
I won't have any fish in my old tank.

So there'll be nothing in the 100? Just either move the existing filter over or put the cycled media into the new filter

Even disturbing the substrate in the smaller tank can caused in mini cycle (increse in ammonia). You need to keep your current filter wet and move it over to the other tank and get it running promptly without to much a do.

When you get the new tank, fill it with water and heat it to the appropriate temperature, scape the tank how you would like it. Run the new tank with the filter it came with for a day.
The next day, take out the media in the filter the tank came with and replace it with as much media as you can from the bigger tanks filter. Make sure the 100L filter media remains wet.
Run the filter for about 10 minutes and add the fish.
Monitor the ammonia and nitrite in the new tank for at least a week.
If anything goes wrong (ammonia or nitrite spike) perform a water change and continue monitoring the levels.

Good luck on the transfer!
I hope to see pics when its finished :snap:
