Hi all, I'm new to the fish keeping hobby. I have a 260 litre tank which is fully cycled. I am looking for advice on stocking levels. I would like to have a male betta and maybe 2 bn catfish. So I'm looking for suitable schooling fish really and maybe a red tail shark. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Red tailed shakrs can be feisty and it's best not to keep him with a betta, as bettas are slow, colourfull, and great food for the red tailed shark. I would personally veer away from the shark and keep a peacefull tank. Any tetras (cardinal, neon, x-ray, rummy nose etc) will be fine with 2 bn, as will harlequins, glass catfish, hatchet fish. It may sound silly, but the betta may get stressed being in such a big tank (with the flow and bettas aren't good swimmers).:good:

+1 on the Red Tail sharks, I don't think it would be a good mix. Not sure if a male betta would work in a tank this big, I think you'd be safer with a group of females (6 or more)- they can be just as pretty as the males. As long as you choose the tetra species carefully (stay away from species like serpae and silver tips for example, very nippy!) I don't think you'd have any problems.
