New Tank

bristlenose will be fine in that size tank - I think the point was that the corries kept bumping into the BN? Give the BN enough places to hide out in and that should not be an issue.

 Correct, actually all of the fish, the corys, guppies, platies and swordtail kept bumping into the pleco, pleco's food, pleco's caves, etc.. 30G regardless of hiding spots is a small enough tank and otos would be happier I think.

The main thing is getting it as she wants otherwise im not going to hear the end of it lol as far as my 450 downstairs goes, I'm thinking of taking the dovii back and getting a green terror, jack Dempsey and a convict or 2 instead??

yep - that sounds like quite a feisty stocking! But better ask in NW Cichlids for more constructive advice.

Ok will do :)

So in your opinion a school of 15 smaller tetras or rasboras, 8-10 corys, 2 Bolivian rams and a smaller plec (with hiding places) should be fine?

I don't want to sound negative again and only trying to help. But with a U2 filter and that stocking I wouldn't be sure it can handle the load.
A smaller plec like a bristlenose can grow to 12cm and they can poo a lot. Most corys get quite big too(7cm maybe depending on species)

ooops, I missed the filter size.

A U3 is the minimum you want for that water volume (and stock).

Iv also got an interpret pf4 internal filter just lying around.. Would this be better to use or??

Corys will be either bronze or peppered. I know you can mix them but I'd rather all the same species. Oh and your not sounding negative, all the help I can get is welcome :)

Thank you...

Just used it and it works out as 133 litres/29 gallons (35 US gallons).

What community fish would be good for this tank with let's say a bristlenose and 8-10 corys (bronze or peppered)

BN Catfish love a strong current and are happy at temps starting with 21C. On that basis, I would rule out sub-tropical Corydoras including Peppered and Trilineatus, who do far better in a heaterless tank than stays in the 15-20C ballpark for most of the year.

For an open water schoaler, that likes cooler temps and lots of water flow, I'd look at fish including...
Buenos Aires Tetra
Redflank Bloodfin
Bloodfin Tetra
Glass Bloodfin Tetra (if you chose to have the temp a bit warmer at 23C, which then means looking at your Corydoras choice again, chunky Emerald Brochis would get my vote in 22-25C water)
Silvertip Tetra (again 23C, 10+ group to reduce odds of nipping)
Lemon Tetra (22C)
[most fish with a true forked tail]

Both bronze and peppered grow up to 7cm each.

The Interpret you have is 1000l/h which is more than a U3(600L/H) for example which Zody says would be fine.

I initially had 800L/H filter for the previous stocking I mentioned earlier and the ammount of pleco poop I took out with weekly water changes was unreal. So I installed a second filter U4(1000L/h) and it got easier
If you want a peaceful easy to look after tank then don't get a pleco. The one thing I love about plecos is that I never need to clean the glass from inside ever

Hmm that puts a hold on things. Was really hoping to get a plec AND some corys as I live both of them. :(

So much more to this than just adding fish like I used to think before :)

I am not saying you can't have them. It's up to you and with a bit of extra filtration, careful decorating you will get away. But the bottom won't look as peaceful with 8-10 corys and a pleco and there will be another 17 fish above them too. Many people have that stocking and are probably wondering why the pleco is hiding all day and the corydoras never spawn. They'll be generally fine in my opinion, just not completely happy but happy enough not to get sick probably.

Otos do look like mini plecos and a few of them will do the same as a pleco minus the poop problem
