I want to get a small tank for the first month or so for fry.
Ive seen some in lfs that would do but they have a square shaped hole at both sides and a rectangle one in the middle, kinda hard to explain but ill get pics on sat.
Would this matter for fry?

oh piccies would be great, but you could use a storage box if you wanted :) (cheaper, easier to get a hold of too! :) )

Yeah but id have to cut holes in the lid and theres no food hatch, will take pics tomorrow

It would be possible to keep guppy fry in a plastic storage box as Betta_246 suggested. I prefer a little 10 gallon tank for that purpose. I prefer the 10 gallon over any other size for a very simple set of reasons. The tank is big enough to bring along a drop or even two drops until they are big enough to go back into the main tank. You can get a 10 gallon dirt cheap because it is the size that the LFS uses most often as the tank they put on a special sale to try to attract new fish keepers to the hobby. I even find them selling for less than a 5 gallon tank. They are very easy to filter and there are tons of cheap filters that will do a great job at filtering a 10 gallon. A fry tank often does not have any substrate and has no living plants so we are talking about a simple glass box with some filtration and maybe a heater depending on the species. For my purposes, that means getting a 10 set up and cycled so that I can use it as needed. I always have a few on hand in case of a need for fry.

This is the tank in qu, there are some that are bigger to with the exact same lid
