i can bring back about 40 litres of origianal water from the tank and poss add another 30 litres from a bi orb that we have at home......

will this be enough or am i going to end up killing the fish?????

hope someone can help

lee,

the water holds very little bacteria that will be used in the cycling process, the main area for the accumulation of the bacteria is in the filter,

Im guessing the tank your picking up has been in use, the reason why it has water in it? if the filter has not been out of the tank for long then the bacteria in the filter should survive and will help you with the cycling process when you get home.

However....
if the filter is new, or not been used in a while there will be little to no bacteria present, if you could borrow, beg or steal some mature media that has been in a running filter then you could stuff this into your new filter. This would help speed up the cycling process. I have done this three times with new filters with great affect.

However, if you cant get any mature media for the filter im afraid you will have to start the cycling process from scratch
hope it helps
