New Tank..

im a newbie here and just discovered this site after the fact i guess most of us have ... i have 10 gallon didnt do a cycle as i now know but its doing something thugh i thin amonia is still hi smells .. been a week...
lost 3 so far poor fishes lost 2 oplatties one common pleco ... have one golden catfish sucker loaches whatever its call was told it gets no bigger than 4 inches good 4 that and 5 neon tetras

i would recomend taking your fish back to the store and starting afresh with the cycling

you need to do daily water changes of at least 20% and get some test kits ASAP. or you will loose more fish.

the neons will be ok in a 10 gallon. but your golden sucking loach is probably a chinese algae eater, and an aggressive beasties, and get to about 6". he'll need larger than a 10 gallon when he's full grown. and he won't eat much algae when he's bigger, he'll turn on the wee fishies instead.

and please please please don't get another common plec!

i cant believe it it is a albino or golden chinese algae eater but was told it would not get bigger as i said i have a 10 gallon tank and want a small sucker thing to help maintain the tank grrrr that pisses me off now tht i can see for the sake of how it can be mean

Youve just learned why not to listen to ANYTHING most lps will tell you. Take the fish back, cycle the tank, and do research before you buy your fish.

Youve just learned why not to listen to ANYTHING most lps will tell you. Take the fish back, cycle the tank, and do research before you buy your fish.
