Hey everyone

i'm getting a 6x2x2 (180 gals) soon.. and i decided i'd like new world cichlids

So anyone have any cool stocking ideas? i'm open to anything

Also.. if i decided on getting a breeding pair of oscars, what else can i have in the tank with them? Would it be possible for me to have more than one breeding pair? I'm fairly new to new world cichlids.. but ive had success with africans, so i;m hoping to learn about new worlds as well

Thanks in advance

Breeding pairs of cichlids don't normally tolerate other fish with them unless they are fast enough to swim away..

I've never bred oscars though so I couldn't tell you about them specifically..

It might be possible though

you could have 2 pairs of oscars. but id prefer 1 pair of oscars and then other cichlids like blue acara, firemouth, mabie sajica, severum, festiva, convicts- there are plenty of cool fish you could have in yuore tank. youve got to have a pleco as well (its the law)

I don't think 2 pairs of oscars would be a good idea..

not that the inches per gallon rule applies to them.. I'm just thinking about 4 12'' fish in a 6 foot tank.. Seems kinda cramped

it would be a bit cramped with 2 pairs-they could end up killing eachother depending on how aggressive they were. it may not be a good idea to have a pair of oscars in with anything else. i have never bread oscars but reading my book it says they will be very aggressive

There are so many possibilites for New Worlds with a tank that size - I'm sure a lot of us could go on forever!

You could keep keep large predatory cichlids like Jaguar Cichlids. Maybe a community setup of eartheaters or any number of other cichlids with come large catfish or perhaps with some large schooling tetras like silver dollars? While it's not a cichlid, how 'bout Arowana? And there's always discus of course. Do you want a planted tank?
