as the tank we currently have was a pre-existing set up i'm trying to learn more about planting and fishies by getting a 30 litre(18"x10"x10") tank and trying to get some proper planting going. If all goes well i'd like to put a few small fishes in there.

would this be feasible or should it be left for quartantining fish?

obviously i'd get another tank for quarantine or my planting fun relative to feedback gleamed from you lovely people here

(i'm only thinking about 6 tetra's or something along those lines before i get shot down :p)

any feedback would be gratefully received.

thanks
andy

30 litres is just under 8 gallons I think.

I'd put a group of sparkling gouramies in there - 1 male, 3 females. Licorice gouramies would be another option but they are fragile and I'd not suggest them unless you feel very confident in your abilities to keep them alive. Also, honey gouramies, kept as a trio (1 male, 2 females) could work. There is also always the option of getting one of the multitude of betta species in circulation - not limmited to betta splendens.

If you don't want gouramies (who wouldn't? :p), a school of spotted rasboras or myer's hatchetfish or pygmy cories or some mosquito fish or endler's would work. there are plenty of killifish that are equaly suited to a small, ehavily planted environments - and let's not foget shrimp!

i have to say near enough all my 23 posts could have been reduced to 2/3 if only i could be bothered to search! but then i guess i'd lose the personal interaction...albeit over an internet forum

i'm not massively keen on gourami's to be honest! i was thinking some nice lil dudes to dart about and hopefully draw my gaze from here (other tank is in the living room)

edit:
i've read the thread and it's confirmed what i was thinking.

3 pygmy cories and 5 rasbora/tetra's would be fine?
i'd just be within the inch per gallon rule and they'd still be in close enough "teams" as not to be distressed
