HELLO!

I am getting a new tank for my two goldfish in the next week. It is a second hand one, from my mother in law. It's 60L (too small, i know! they are currently in a 20L and it will have to do until i can afford anything bigger)

But, when putting them in their new home, what can I do to make them adjust quicker? :) Any tips?

Thanks!

just move the whole filter over so you dont get rid of any bacteria then run the other filter along side it. :good:

personally id run both filters for about 2-4 weeks so the new filter will have time to cycle. or you could just move the media over. and then thats job done :good:

3 weeks, okay! :D More if they look a little uncomfortable :)
And do i move both over together? :)

the filter is supporting both your fish at the moment. long if you place the filter in the bigger tank with both fish it will do its job and carry on supporting them. as there is the same amount of bacteria in the filter and the fish are pooing the same amount :good:

so set your new tank up how you want it to look fill it with de-chlorinated water and move the filter and both fish across. then you can shut down the 20L or make it tropical.

in the new tank set both filters up and let them run so while the fish are being supported by 1 filter the other is cycling. then you could remove the old filter after a few weeks as the new one (should) support the fish okay :good: (you could then put that one back in the 20L and turn it tropical)

Could I use the old water, in my new tank? :) Like..use 90% of that and top it up? Would it help them at all? :)

thats a good idea i cant see any problem with it :good:

And they can keep their old boat ornament too, as the smallest one likes to sit inside it :3
I'm quite excited!

id like to see the tank once its set up :good:

Glad to hear you got a new tank sorted :good: they will be much happier in there.

As already said above, the most important thing to get right is the filter, use both (for atleast a month IMO) so that your new one has a chance to cycle. Do you have a water test kit?

Putting your old substrate in to the new tank may also help, some people will disagree, but it certainly won't do any harm.

I can't afford many good ornaments. So they will have to make do with stones, their boat thingy and some plant for now!! :)

Not..I don't have a test kit..I really have no money :p

tbh i dislike most of the ornaments. planted tank's are the way forwards :good:

I was thinking of getting some of that rock, that has plant attached to it...It's like a seat for my loach & plant in one :D
