Hey all..... New to TFF and love the site. Just after a couple of answers/ideas for my setup. My tank is about 150 litres, canister filter that cycles 700l/hr and a Jager 300 watt heater. As of about 2 weeks ago it now has black substrate, driftwood and a hand me down plant, (annubis ?). Current residents are 6 Bristlenose cats, who seem to like the dark setup. Just wondering, wanted to get 6-7 halequin rasbora, they look awesome. Was also thinking about tiger barbs, don't know though. Any thoughts???? Still need to throw a few more plants in, would like a grassed area, maybe a java fern and something longer in the back.... Thanx guys.

Noone???? (wipes away a tear....)

Dont get too down hearted, someone normally replies eventually!

I'm new to this hobby so someone else would need to answer your stocking questions.

with regards to the plant stuff, I'd ask the question directly in the plant sub-forum. Explain what you are looking for and the pros over there should be able to offer some plant suggestions.

Hi, welcome to the forum!!

Don't really know about planted set-ups..

Tiger Barbs should be kept in shoals of 6 or more, as they're fin-nippers otherwise.

Harlequin Rasbora are awesome fish, heard people mention galaxy rasbora's as a even better looking specimens..not really my territory, just adding what I know.

Me personally, I'd find a pair from the BN's and re-home the rest of the BNS. LT this would give more options with stocking. HTH.

6 bristlenoses is a little excessive for a 150L tank. If you can cutback down to around 3 or less, it would open up more options (maybe an lfs will let you trade them for other fish?). But seeing how you already have them...

The shoaling fish, harlequins and tigerbarbs, will be fine in your tank. You'd want about 8 of each, but be warned that tigerbarbs can be nippy and can grow to 7cm.

Also, there aren't many posters here who are gmt+10, so that might account for the slow replies.

I've never seen galaxy rasbora anywhere in the illawarra, but maybe I just don't know where to look...

yes but the plants would never survive in the 'dark' setup you were describing.id say just keep 2 of your BN,s and any other fish youd like cuz you will just get bored of the same type of fish. angels maybe a single or pair.

I'd venture that a shoal of harlequins (rasbora heteromorpha) would not only look great but will be shown off even more by your dark substrate, they are hardy, wonderful beginner fish and I'd go for it. The tiger barbs are a fish that I'd wait and discuss more with the members... it could turn out either way, not trying to influence you, just feel you should take more time, gather more info and feel more confident about that decision. Presumably you've already cycled the tank as you've got fish in there, but be aware that there are great articles in the beginners resource center about the cycling topic. Brand new tanks tend to be too stark and clean for plants, you may need to put some energy into learning about light, carbon, fertilization and plant choices etc. to see if you want to make any adjustments early on.

Thanx all, I love food for thought.... Shall keep investigating, still enjoying what I have at the moment so I am in no real hurry. Cheers!!!!
