Hey everyone, I want to say thank you already for all the helpful info on this site :) Im pretty jealous of a lot of your tanks/fish!!!

Firstly im a perfectionist, anything I do just has to be right. Did lots of research before setting up, my gf has to drag me from the pc sometimes :p

We have a 110L tank thats been cycled and we have added 4 male platies followed later by 3 khuli loaches. The end aim is to have a male betta(blue/purple). We have fallen in love with the platies and their own little personalities and I was wondering if there was any issue with having only males in the tank if we got a few more then added the betta last?

Will get a pic up shortly, any advice is greatly appreciated :)

an all male group should be fine providing you have at least 5, i have 5 male platies and they get along great :good:

i would definately think about getting some more Kuhli, they do better in bigger groups, if your only adding a few more platies and the betta i'd make it 10 Kuhli

Thx for the reply. The Khulis have only been in there for nearly a week now and was definatly going to get a few more. The largest one seems pretty brave and you see him out and about especially up in the plants, but the other 2 do hide most of the time. I think I made the tank 'too' nice for them with plenty on hidey spots, but aslong as their happy I am!

I have noticed people purchasing Bettas online. Does anyone have experience with this as im slightly worried about transport conditions. I know a lot of fish come many miles to get to the U.K but im not sure if its a good way to go. Im happy to keep turning up at my LFS in search of the 'perfect' Betta on delivery days if needs be!

Wish I wasnt such a tech noob trying to get a pic up :p

the Kuhli shoudl feel more comfortable when theres a few more, i have 8 and there always out and about :good:

i have got half of my bettas online (total of 11) and all have travelled and arrived safe and sound i got mine from ebay :good:

If you upload your picture to a site such as photobucket or imageshack you just copy the img code and paste it into your reply box

Hurrah! 1 more thing :p how do u stop plants trying to grow roots halfway up themselves going sideways lol. I guess its because there in a bit of a current on the right hand side of the tank.

i don't think you can  my Cabomba is all over the tank, i have a huge ball of it where the cories drug it up  letf it as my bettas sleep in there

Thanks for all the advice mate :)

We got a few more Khuli and 1 more Platy, and within 24 hours everyone in the tank seems happier :good:

Cant wait to find our Betta soon!

to make all transitions easier, have the betta as your very last addition. Chances are very high that the betta you are going to get is still "young" - and therefore will has not reached maturity or full aggressiveness/territorial tendencies. By having the other fish there first, he takes them as part of his territory. Adding them after the betta, he could see them as "invaders" of his territory.

Still, always have a back up plan. There have been bettas who have lived peacefully in their community tank for months and then go on a territory claiming spree, attacking their tankmates.

So, always have a back up plan should your betta end up having an aggressive personality

We were definately going to add the Betta last.

I have plans to setup a smaller tank just for that reason and quarantine, even if my gf isnt aware of it yet

Sounds good - - don't forget to keep us updated with pictures!
