I currently have a 20 gallon freshwater aquarium with three angelfish, two silver tip tetras, and two black skirt tetras.I was hoping to get a new aquarium around Christmas.I was hoping for it to be around fourty gallons but I don't know if it should be salt or freshwater.I wanted to try salwater but what could I get with fourty gallons?Does anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks
Ty

Stick with tropicals for the mo..... and get a lot of experience.... I've kept tropicals for 40 years now, and do not (yet) feel adequately experienced (qualified) to make the move to the Salty side.... I'm just a coward!

Ok.I was going to get a 75 gallon saltwater but the price was too much when all of the planning was done. What could I do with a 40 gallon?Should I move the fish from the 20 gallon because I feel that it is overstocked some.I am kind of scared to go saltwater too!I know I could do it though because I have a friend that is very experienced with saltwater and has showed me how to care for saltwater fish but I will listen to people that have more experience.

Thanks

Stick with Freshwater....I too was recently torn on converting a FW tank to SW. After looking into all the items needed I decided it would be more fun and rewarding to start breeding instead. I would not immediately place fish in the 40 gallon as it would need to be cycled. Once cycled if you feel the 20 gallon is overcrowded then move the angels to the 40 so they have more vertical and horizontal room to swim.

Okay.I really think it would be best if I moved my fish from my 20 gallon to a 40 gallon because when I think of 2 tanks,I think of double the things that could go wrong.I would like to have live plants because as I have a pretty good experience with freshwater now and I want to use the experience.I wanted plants like amazon swords, java fern and/or moss, etc. In other words I wanted low light plants but I don't really know what type of lighting I would need.Does anybody here know? Also, would I need a source of Co2?

Thanks
Ty
