hey there, wondering if anyone can help. i recently bought a new tank and ive bascially swapped everything form the old on into the new. ive used most of the water from my old tank in the new one and im using the old filter. im plannin to use the filter unit that came with the new tank (cos its siliconed in and i cant get it out :( ). anyway, im now running both filters, but im just wondering how long i should leave it like this before i can remove the old filter.

if your old filter used sponges then chop them up and put them in the middle of Juwel filer box then just take the old filter straight out.

Otherwise I reakon your going to need to run it for a good few weeks until the new one matures a bit.

is this because the sponges will contain the bacteria? the old filter is a fluval 304, and it has the ceramic bio tubes media in it. would putting this in the new filter help? also, im not too hot when it comes to filters, but i assume juwel will have provided me with a filter and pump that is more than adequate for the tank, but does anyone have any experience with this that would tell me otherwise? would using my fluval filter be better than the supplied one, or will it make no difference?

Oh right, well if you don't want to sell the filter leave it running, i assumed it was a internal of some kind.

alot of people had an external with Juwel tanks for the extra boost as for alot of set ups they are unpowered.

Juwel tanks are designed to filter planted tanks with plants as the main attraction and fish coming 2nd.

If you do want to get rid of the Fluval though, wack the biological in the filter box for a week or so, would be best to place them inside a filter media bag or a stocking or something similiar so they stay togther.
