Hiya guys, been many many years away from the fish scene, but decided to get back into it.

here is my tank so far, only setup 12 hours, so still lots of waiting to be had.

Thanks for the feedback guys. It was clearing ok, think its got abit of a tea colouring to it, think this will be due to the bog wood. See how it goes. I think a carbon filter might help, but I dont want to undo anything else thats happening in the tank, its only just hit 24 hours so still early days.

Could I possibly get a shot of the red/purple plant on the right? I'm not positive it's a true aquatic. It looks an aweful lot like purple waffle, which is a terrestrial plant. But I can't tell for sure. What's your lighting in your tank? Also, if you don't mind, try separating some of the bunch plants. If there are fewer stems planted together, there is a better chance for light to reach the bottom leaves, preventing the bottom leaves from dying off. I'd say no more than 3-4 stems in a grouping. At least that's what I'd do.

A few more questions. Are you injecting CO2 or planning any sort of fertiliztion regimen? Do you know what plants you have in the tank? Also, what size is the tank? I apologize for the loads of questions. Your tank is very pretty, and I don't want you to think that I'm just criticizing (sp). It has a lot of potential. If you could move the thermometer to a side that's not too visible, that would be better and you can see the tank better, it's a bit distracting.

Wait on the carbon filter, as it does take nutrients that the plants would need as well as the tannins in the wood. It takes time for the tannins to get to a tolerable level. I also find that some fish benefit from tannins and their colors come out better with a tannic tank. But, again, this is just my opinion. Any stocking ideas?

I am sorry, I will stop asking questions now. Gosh, I drive myself nuts, I can only imagine what you guys must think of me!

Here is a pic of the plant = Red Plant
Thanks for the advice on the bunching, I will see how it goes.
As for lighting, I am just using an 18" 15W Tropical Light, dont know much more about it than that.
I have a Tetra C02 canister system installed Co2 Image, and also some Tetra Liquid fertiliser I am going to try.
I just moved the Thermometer, and it broke :) Good job they are cheap. I will put it on the side next time :)

Do I need for the tannings to go 100%, IE Crystal clear water before fish, regardless of the water levels?

As for for stocking ideas and tank size see this thread.

very nice tank set up.what size is it?whats the substrate?

very nice indeed

would look very nice with a shoal of neons in there or rummy nose perhaps?

if I remember right though neons prefer a more mature tank?correct me if im wrong :)

What do you mean by more mature?

Also guys just noticed I got some very very small snails appear. I assume these came in on some of the new plants. Are these a good thing, or should I get them removed ASAP?

a few months I think but im sure others may disagree or agree.

I usually take snails out of a fishless tank to prevent them taking over but in my 4ft I dont have snails cos the clown loaches eat them

Upon inspection, it doesn't look like purple waffle to me, but keep an eye on it just incase. If it shows any sign of decay, remove it quickly. Sorry about the broken thermometer. You know for a few bucks more, you can get a nice digital one.

Nah, the tannins can stay in there when you add fish. All of my tanks have wood that releases tannins, and none of my fish are having problems. I will have a looksy at the other thread.

Thanks for answering my questions. :)
