Hi Guys,

I just got a used 56g Tank and it used to used for marina aquaria. I want to convert it to a fresh water aquarium. I have been advised by my LFS to let the filter run on normal tap water for a day so that it can clear all (most) of the salt from the aquarium. Once that is done I must remove all the water and refill and start a new tank. I want quite a few plants in the tank and some sand and rocks. I have the rocks already (fake coral), and I am confused about how much sand to use. I was considering using around 2cm of sand in the tank. Is that enough for some plants? Also since it might still have some salt in the tank therefore making it quite brackish, how long before I can put in any angel fish? I was told that they don't like brackish water.

I have the following fish 2 khulie loaches, 2 angel, 2 dwarf cichlids, 5 platys, 2 bristle nose plecs, 8 neon tetras....
I have been scrounging the net for information about plants but I am still confused, I am no botanist, but some almost look the same... can someone give more advice and also point me to some websites that have examples of tank setups... also i wanted to add 2 colourful fish, what other colourfull fish could I add?
How do I move the fish from one fish tank to anther, I am assuming I can't just net them and drop them in the bigger tank as that will be at a different temperature and obviously dofferent water quality... I assume I bag them and do the whole climatising thing. Right?

thanks

There is a section on this forum for people to put their tank photos on.

Here's the link .http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showforum=22

.. you might see tanks that are a similar size to yours and give you some ideas :)
