hi I'm new to the forum , please forgive me i know how forums work and I'm sure this question has been asked many times ,
i am moving my fish to a new tank going from 48 lire to 125 liter .
my fish are 2 guppies two dwarf gurami two chilids 3 neon tetra and two small bottom feeders (bad spelling )
i am convinced from what i read everywhere i am going to have them all die from stress etc .

the new tank has been running for 48 hours temp is 23 degrees filter up and running ,my old tank was a interpet 48 fish box my new one is as of picture .picture of new tank
if url will not work its the JUWEL RIO 125

what can i do to ensure fish survive , i thought about putting the gurami and bottom feeders first to get cycle going.
i also want to avoid bacteria bloom and nitrate spikes which i constantly fought in my small tank .

is it ever a good idea to put a couple of pints of old water in new tank .

any help would be really appreciated

many thanks for this brilliant forum

Hi and welcome to TFF.

Right! First of all, it's great that your giving your fish more space :good:
How long has your old tank been up and running? Because there is your key to a safe and stress free move. Let's assume it's been running for a good few months problem free [nitrate won't adversly effect the fish, it's ammonia and nitRITE you need to keep an eye on....both should read 0 on your tests] If it has you can cycle your new tank immeadiatly by transfering your old media [filter sponges] to the filter in your new tank, meaning you don't have to start a new cycle.
Next, match the temperature in your two tanks, you can use some water from your old tank, but there isn't much benefit really [all of your good bacteria is in the filter media].
Make sure your water has been treated with dechlor....and personally I'd keep the lights off in the tank and not feed for 24 hours.

Good luck...remember....slowly and carefully!

thanks divegirl for your help , i am going to take it slow the last thing i want is my fish in pain or stress

If you can move the filter that has been taking care of your fish, it will continue to take care of them in a new tank. If you are trying to keep the old tank running and just add a tank, try doing a fishless cycle after your clean your old filter in the new tank. That will seed the new filter with some of the right bacteria and the fishless cycle should go much easier on that new tank.
