Hi,

Firstly i am thinking of getting a new tank and i am wondering what the volume is in gallons? Could someone help me work it out? I've looked on online volume calculators and got from 35 - 44 gallons. Maybe the last one is US gallons i don't know. I think its probably 35 UK gallons (160 L)

The dimensions are as follows:

1000mm (39 inches) in width

510mm (20 inches) high - inclusive of hood

400mm (15.75 inches) deep

In this size tank would it be possible to keep 6 guppies, 2 dwarf gouramis (1 male, 1 female...i heard they don't do very well on their own.), male swordtail, 4 peppered corys and some ammano shrimp....and if they can get squeezed in 2 sunset platys? I just think it would be a bit over crowded.

also if it doesn't work out i was thinking of buying a fluval roma 240 but i don't think my student bank balance will like it! I have seen it on seapets for £365 with a cabinet, anyone know where i can get a tank with similar specs for cheap? :) Tried looking on ebay but the tanks are always a million miles from me.

Thank you in advance, sorry for so many questions!

Oh if it helps the tank i was looking at was an Aquatropic 100!

I would say your tank would be fine with the numbers you suggest, but i would up the Cory's to 6.

Welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the advice guys and the warm welcome, i may be buying a bigger tank anyway, just saw an amazing 4 ft tank for £65 on gumtree! Hopefully they still have it! Will deffo buy a few more corys then. Thanks again.
