If i were to get a new tank would i have to go through the whole cycling Process again?

Or could i do a 50% water change with my current tank and add the old water in the new tank? that sounds a little dumb to me but so does alot of things which turns out not to be...

I heard you can use the old filter cartrage and also use a sock filled with gravle from the older tank... i use sand so i wouldnt think that would work?

Well just a thought, let me know hat you know about that,

Thanks

Kev

Get some material from the cicled filter in the new filter and run it for a day or two (don't to include an amonia source) and a cicled tank is born. after that you can give the material back to the previus filter.

You don't need any old water. There's nothing good in it. Just take some sand/decorations/plants/filtermedia to your new tank from your old and your new tank is ready for small amount of fish.

Just to emphasise here- it is the filter media you need to move across, don't worry too much about the gravel in a stocking business.

If you are upgrading your filter, then run it in the old tank for a week or so alongside your old one, move them both over with the fish in one go, and remove the old one after a few weeks. Unless you want to keep it in there for extra filtration.

Don't add any new fish for a couple of weeks, to let the new tank settle down.

Excellent advice above. Running both filters on the new tank for a week or two would be my first choice, and using media from the old filter in the new filter my second choice.

But isn't the current too fast in most small filters. So nitrosomas and nitrospira bacteria can't attach to filter media. I would use gravel that contains those bacteria for sure...
