After my disatarous 15% water change in my Baby BiOrb(2 Cardianal Tetra died, long story, explained in the general tropical discussion sub forum), I've decided that a bigger and frankly better tank is needed if I'm not going to kill my fish every time I look at them. I've decided on a 60 ltr tropical tank, sand substrate, bogwood and live plant decoration.

So far I've still got 4 Cardinals left and was thinking of increasing this number back to 6 or up to 10. Could you all give me some ideas as to what would be compatible with these and help create a colourful and lively aquarium. I was thinking some colourful guppies, and some others(not sure which) I know Siamese fighters are out due to them istaking guppies for other fighters.

Cheers:)

A group of 10 would look nice. A small school of Pygmy Cories would be lovely, with the Cardinals...

Hi Wordy :)

You made a good decision! A bigger tank is usually easier to keep stable than a small one and is a lot more fun to keep too. :D

I agree with the others. A small school of corys would be ideal for your new tank. Unlike tetras, corys actually seem to enjoy each other's company. They are active and playful.

Sixty litres is almost 16 US gallons, so, given you lose a couple gallons to substrate and such but that its all rough guessing anyway.. I'd think it reasonable to be thinking of 15 inches of mature fish body as your guideline. The homework is to look on TFF and other places and gather the maximum mature (fully-grown) average sizes of the various fish you are interested in. Then you add 'em all up and see how you are doing with respect to your 15 inch guideline.
