Well im hoping to have a cycled tank within the next couple of weeks and ive been looking around the site for advise on what fish to buy.

I was thinking neon tetras. But apparently they arent too good for a newly cycled tank.
Then i thought clown loaches, but they get rather large im told.

The tank is a 70L one.

What kinds of fish are good for a newly cycled tank?

Thanks.

A lot of people tend to go with Danios as they are quite a hardy fish. Another popular choice seems to be Mollies and Platies although they could end up over running your tank with fry.
Your best bet would be to have a look at your lfs and list what fish you really like. You can then get the opinions of members about your fish choice. ;)

I like the look of those danios. Ill keep an eye out for them.

Any other good intros?

Danios are great fish to start in a tank and there are many different types. I have long finned leopard and zebra(see my signiture). They are, however, very active and fast swimming fish and occupy the upper tank mainly. Make sure that this fits in with 'the look' you are wanting to create :good:

As the lovely Stang1 suggested, Platies and Mollies are good to start off with. (platies being hardier IMO)

There are loads of colour variations in platies so you can create a good display. A good idea would be to either get all males or all females (but baring in mind that the females most likely will arrive pregnant!)

Have fun! :good:

Thank doresy =]

So far im thinking of:

Zebra Danio
Long finned leopard
Mollies.

Then when the tank is more mature ill get some 'Pygme Cories?' and some neon tetras.

Will this work?

EDIT: Id also like some form of algae eater (We call them tank cleaners =P) and perhaps angel fish or kissing gouramies. However ive heard they get rather large.

Just remember that you have approx 15" of fish at adult size to play with.

Cory prefer sandy substrate. Pigmy cory do not tend to spend much time on the bottom like other cory, they are more mid tank dwellers.

Your tank is not big enough really for angels

What about the kissers?

And what about clown loaches?

Im guessing these also get rather large.

Another question about 'algae eaters'. Do i need some sort of rock or log for the algae or moss or whatever to grow on? Or will the algae eaters suck the gravel and sides of the tank/surface?

Well ive done some searching around and i've come to this selection:

6 x Zebra Danio
4 X CoryDora
6 X Neon Tetra.

Are these fish suitable for a new (cycled) tank of my size? (75L) and will they get on alright together?

Thanks.

Ok, I'll do my best here. The neons would be better off being introduced a bit later on as they like a bit of maturity in a tank. I have all three species in my tank and they are fine together.

One last opinion, I would say 4 of each would just keep you within correct stocking level for your sized tank :good:

As the handsome Doresy suggested, Neons are better off in a more mature tank as they are not very hardy at all.
Zebra Danios are great fish but can be known to fin nip so just keep a close eye on them. As far as I know, Cories also prefer a mature tank so maybe wait a while befor adding those too.
