Bought a new 5.5 gallon glass tank, hood, light and filter at a yard sale about a month back and my male betta is loving it. He was in a 5 gallon acrylic tank uncycled but now he's in a tank that has gravel, a small ceramic flower pot, a large lighthouse ornament for him to swim through and some java moss. He's beginning to make alot more bubble nests than before so I'm thinking he's quite a happy fellow. I paid 6.00 for the setup at the yard sale and a little bleach cleaning and cycling it has become a nice little home for him (Angel).

Sounds like he's a much happier little guy in his new posh tank :good: But it's an unwritten rule that you MUST show us pics

u washed ure tank with bleach, ure not mean't to do that are u?

thanks

paul

Never used it myself but I have heard of a lot of people using it to clean their tanks.....they obviously rinse really well and leave to drip dry.

Just let it rinse for a while and you will be fine. Hey nice deal! I paid $19.00 for my 1.7 gallon and filter and the works.

Ya, I put just an inch or so of bleach and fill rest with water, let sit for about 1/2 hr. pour half out fill with water let sit for a few minutes and do about 2 more times with pouring and rinsing. I then take the spray hose outside and spray down for a good 5 minutes, then I fill with water and add at least 4-5 times the amount of declor., let sit for a while and if it's sunny out let it dry. I haven't had any problems what so ever, also if I have some cheap declor I'll add tons of it, pour, rinse and do again a few more times to make sure the bleach is all out.

Using bleach to clean tanks is pretty common. Just be very dedicated to the rinsing process. ^^^ that is a textbook way to do it... lol, maybe even a bit beyond textbook :p

Good to hear your betta is doing so great. I love setting up new tanks for these guys and getting a positive reaction in return. very rewarding.

I go to yard sales almost every Saturday morning here in Pennsylvania, it's relaxing for me but the gas prices may put a hamper on that eventually. I love to shop and for a guy I suppose that's kind of unusual, I like to look for good deals and right now I'm looking to find some ornaments or some more tanks, hopefully my wife won't kick me out for buying to much. However she did give me a room to myself on the 3rd floor which is aprox. 10 x 12 foot so I still have plenty of space for my stuff. I usually find alot of clothes and shoes for my 2 girls at yard sales, it's usually easy to find tanks, clothes, shoes and whatever pretty cheap but sometimes people are out to make a ton of money. Don't mind spending a dollar on some nice used shoes but when they want 3 dollars or so then I can go and buy some new ones on sale for a little more than that. I usually only pay a few dollars for my tanks and most places are very happy to get rid of them, have heard that when people are over with fish they will pretty much give there stuff away, I have found that quit true alot of times.

What a Deal $6 :good:, if im correct
