I am thinking out a 2.5 gallon mini-bow, and i was wondering do i need to cycle the tank, or can i just fill it up with my big tank's water. And the cycling progress will be done

The water won't help much, but if you steal a little of your big tank's filter media and put it into the mini-bow's filter, you'll have a huge head start on the cycle and may avoid it altogether...

Happy to help!

What are you planning on putting in it? I know most people would say that the only thing you could/should put in it would be a betta, and in that case there is no reason to cycle it, since you should be doing bi-weekly water changes, so cycling would be pretty much a waste of time.

I am going to be putting some fry into it until they are big enough to go into the big tank, it is better than the little bredders net they are in

okie dokie...... sorry i couldn't help more..... Don't know much about tank cycling... i should just stay on the betta forum hehe!

ive herd that for fry the tank has to have thet best conditions like the others said, u can just add some filter media from your other tanks into the new filter and i would a danio or something for a few days to make sure the tank is cycled then add the fry.........i would watch out with that filter. ive had lots of fry sucked up by that type of filter(unless they were dead already)

good luck with them...btw what kind are they

Jewel Chiclids, alright i have a feeder guppy hanging around ym tank i will add him and see if it is cool. If i add tank water and sand do i really need to add filter media too
