I have recently set up my new tank put some live plants in there and out of no where iv spotted about 4 snails!!!!!! are these beneficial to my tank or are they gonna ruin all my hard work? any info appriciated.

Many Thanks

Tom

A few snails arent much of a problem, theyl eat the algae etc, however if you dont get rid of a few every now and then, you will be over-run with them, which i dont think would be problematic per se (Im not sure if they eat plants, i dont think they do...) but it does ruin the sight of the fish tank having snails everywhere.

I got one during my cycling but its dissapeared, probably died from extreme nitrite levels during the middle when he appeared

There are some great threads on TFF about snails. Just do searches on "snail", "snails" and keep working at it, looking for more at the bottom section where similar threads show up.

Set up a dwarf puffer fish tank, that way you can pick the snails out and feed them to the puffers... and you will have gained another tank :)

sweet! thanks for the replys might invest in loach because more and more keep popping up! :(
