Hi
We're setting up a new 66 gallon tank and last weekend added plants, rock and wood. Rather belatedly we decided to add some dry plant food (Flora Root) in the sand around the base of the plants to give them a boost. Since we've done that, water tests show a very low (about 10 ppm) amount of nitrite. Is this normal with plant fertilizers?
Thanks

Do you mean nitrAte... Plants can rid the water of NitrAte's... It's not the fertilizers...

Hi Corin
No - definately nitrite. The nitrates are testing at 10 too, but that's OK. We just can't understand why - with no fish in yet - we're seeing a nitrite reading.
