i have a 30g jewel tank currently with 3 convicts in there. the general opinion is that the tank is not suited to them. possibly thinking of changing the fish for rams and neons.

questions

how many rams should you have together
are they easy to breed
how many neons is a good number
will they get on
should i get a pleco or some sort of bottom feeder

thanks :D

Hiya,

I believe that Rams pair off, so think it's best to either get a couple that have already paired off (could be tricky) or get a male and a couple of females and then rehome the remaining females once you've got a pair to lessen aggression/bullying or worse. Don't really know too much about breeding them...except that they will become very territorial after laying eggs.

As for Neon's, I'd say 6 minimum as they like to school/swim together - shouldn't be a problem with them and Rams from my experience.

Haven't had any, but Bristlenose Plecs are meant to be pretty cool, but my favourites are definitely Corys, which also like to be in groups, normally around 3 minimum, more if poss. and they're right little characters, really enjoyable to watch.

In my opinion a good stock would be: pair of rams, 4 cories, 15-20 neons
Or instead of that many neons, two schools of small tetras of about 8-10 each.
:)

I agree with MegTheFish... I'd get one group (about 8) neon or cardinals and then another group of either a tetra or maybe harlequin rasboras. I'd go with the kuhli loaches (4) or a few gold dojo loaches instead of the cories though. Very cool fish.
JMHO! :p
