hi,

Well today i updated my collection of snakeheads, I only had 1 Channa Gachua, and today I bought 4 more, hopefully to breed them at a later date.

One of the specimins I bought casts a shadow of doubt over which species it is. As the head is flater and more pointed than the others I have. It is a lot smaller, so it may be that its just a young. It is a browner colour than the other as well, which was the first thing i saw when I got home.

So possibilities are it maybe a different species?

I was thinking maybe:

- C. assam
- C. bleheri

The Pics: Linky

This image shows the fins and tail of the fish I was thinking isnt C. gachua (top right)

as you can see the fins are quite see through, and they lack the thickness and solid colours, like the blue between the tail spines as shown in this one:

the overall body shape is more stream lined than the others as well.

More pics of the fish in question:

The tips if the fins are a light yellow and the others are orange, the main parts of the fins are brown, where as the others are blue.

Any help would be greatfully received

Studz,
Awesome snakeheads! My lfs has one about a foot and a half long. Such a beautiful fish, I would own one but they are illegal where I live :/ I am not worthy of how awesome they are anyway....It would eat me in my sleep and steal my girlfriend.

Hopefully these are a little better than the others :)

I have had them now confirmed by Snakeheads UK that they are all C. Gachua

yup definitely not bleheri, not sure why anyone would think so

The reason the 4th one looks different is they just get the dark vertical bars if theyre a bit stressed thats all.

its not the bars that makes it look different its the total lack of blue in the fins and belly ;) :good:
