When I have time on my hands I will be setting up a 4.2 gallon low-tech planted tank. I have given my steps below...let me know any things that I am missing or should have, or suggestions. This tank cam with no accessories with it at all not even a hood.

1) Buy a cheap filter: http://www.bigalsonline.com/BigAlsUS/ctl3684/cp19170/si1379356/cl0/lustarhydrospongefilter1
2) Fill up the tank
3) Do a fish-less cycle by seeding the tank from the 22g and using pure ammonia
4) When cycle is done put in 8 watt light leaving me with 2 watts/gallon
5) Put in very easy going floating plants such as: Java Fern, Java Moss, Christmas Moss, Anubias, duck weed, hornwort, water sprite, and guppy grass
6) If the plants seems to be doing good put in 5 guppies after 1 week
7) Perform water changes ever 1 week and cut down to 2 weeks if the tank seems to be doing fine

Notice: I don't have any substrate or a heater for this tank, nor will I be putting in any fertilizer...is that okay?
Any ideas on where I can get these plants my location is Toronto Canada

Java Fern, Java Moss, Water sprite, fanwort, duckweed and anubias are all easily found at a good LFS. At least in Calgary.
