Set up tank a week ago so thought that it would be safe to get some fish yesterday (sat) I didnt
check if the water would be alright, just assumed it would be(STUPID) put fish in yesterday,by the evening the 1st casualty,1 started to go on its side, put into Isolation tank but died,by the folowing mornig(today) others followed,Went out and bought Tetra Aquasafe, and Tetra Easy Balance,I notice that the ones left have been staying at the top of the tank all night,The tank is a standard 3ft,I have a 2ft Air curtain in,and also air stones so there is plenty of Oxygen in the Water, but I am baffled, can any one help this fool .

right your tank hasn't cycled, so your ammonia and nitrite levels are high and are deadly to fish they should be 0 at all times after cycling. since you already have the fish all i can reccommend is you read and follow what is said HERE good luck

Ok, set up a week ago? Not cycled then! In your post you made no mention of a filter.

Any remaining living fish I would return to LFS. Empty and clean out your tank.

Refill with DECHLORINATED water and suitable filter

I would then suggest reading the pinned post by rrd1952 on "fishless cycle". HERE

hi there Doresy,Yea I have JIALU hj-952 Submerssible Filter Pump, also Many Thanks to LILFISHIE for his sugestion,Thanks both

You're welcome.

Good to hear that you indeed do have a filter. That one holds enough foam media to grow the bacteria needed to cycle your tank and if you use the spray bar correctly you will get enough surface agitation to aireate the water so no real need for the airstones (other than for decoration)

Remember to read either (or both) the links (should work now) that I and the other poster supplied you with and better luck next time, eh!

You don't need 'Easy Balance'. That's intended to be used in place of regular water changes. Once your tank is set up and cycled, regular water changes should be all that's needed to keep everything healthy. All you should need to put in your tank is 'AquaSafe' at every water change.

Once again Many Thanks to you Vinylman, and all others, for their help,. :good:

You're extremely welcome. All you need is a bit of patience at the start - it makes things so much easier for you AND your fish. Anything else you need to know, ask away.
