My old set-up

New Tank set-up.

Real Plants now.
DIY Lighting - 2.9 WPG
DIY CO2

Looks a bit empty right now but I will be adding more plants later.

if that is an amazon sword on the far left hand side there, it's gonna fry up causing it to go a browny-yellowy colour and then it will fall apart bit by bit until there isn't enough leaf area for adequate photosynthesis to take place causing it to die.

this is because your lighting is too high for it.

other than that... much improvement :good:

Looks good! Although im not sure about what pinkdolphin_113 said. Anyways I say you should try to get some more plants, and maybe another piece of wood! Love the new lighting also, looks much brighter and clearer!

Err, I wouldn't agree with that. I have never seen a case of plants frying due to high light. Heck, I have 99W over my swords and they are a lush, healthy green.
They are heavy root feeders though, and would appreciate root tabs.
Should look amazing when planted up!

Wow thats quite a prediction  Amazon Sword Plants are relatively high light plants. At 2.9 wpg its not gonna "fry"

one thing though... the positioning of the heater... wont that put a strain on it?

Great looking tank though, loving the minimalist effect!

thanks, what do you mean by putting strain on it?

nice looking tank :good: and what are the deminsions on that 55 it looks big

must be the camera angle. it is 48" X 12 1/2" X 21"

well the heater is placed in a corner, and just in my experience, you can increase the life of single heaters in large tanks by either having 2 (either end) or one place centrally, at a diagonal, midway down the tank (the heater instructions give examples). This is just a personal preference, as the only ehater failures I have ever had were in my old 4 ft, where I hid the heater in a corner

wow, still looks bigger than that, are you sure it is 21" deep and not 12" deep, just a question not flaming. because it looks a lot talller than it does deep.

and what type of plants are in there, they look good

Tanks looking much fresher :good:

I hope that heater comments not correct - as my tank comes with a place for the heater in the corner of the filter as standard!

sorry for the mix-up, in school I was taught LxWxH so the way I calculated it was, 48" is the length across, 12 1/2" would be the depth and 21" is the height :good:
