New Sand?

Ive got a planted aquarium and the light bulbs have blown and im struggling to find replacements. My plants are dieing off, will it be easy to "hoover" the decaying plants or will it be best to bin the old sand and put new sand in?

Are the plants completely dead? If not then put then in a clear container on the windowsill.

You might aswell just re-wash the sand after hovvering it aswell to get every dead plant matter out.

What do you mean put them in a clear container? the live plants? why?

The sunlight from the window can go a long way to reviving the plants while you look for a new lamp.
