I ordered a new powerhead and filter from ebay. Finally turned up yesterday. It's bigger than i thought it was going to be, but it definately works!! It can certainly shift some water! It says it can process 400 litres an hour and is rated for a 160 litre tank. It has a sponge filter too which i guess is a bonus. Only cost a tenner so i am happy with it! 
And what i am hoping is two female firemouths
And a treat for the whole tank, doesn't take them long to work their way through it!!
