Hi guys,

First post here,

I bought a large plec on friday and he doesnt seem to be feeding and his poo is clear and stringy.

Is he still settling in or is it something more

Any advice appreciated.

What kind of plec? How big is your tank? Was the filter cycled before you put him in the tank? What are other fish in the tank?

This could mean constipation or some kind of internal parasites. What kind of Plec is it? What have you tried feeding him on?

Think that it is the common plec.

Filter was fully cycled and water has been tested by local shop - all ok

I have tried feeding him on tetra wafer mix and have put in some cucumber and peas today.

His poo was yellow until Saturday morning but since then has been clear

How do I post a pic of him?

You need to upload it to a file sharing site such as photo bucket and then copy the image link into a post.

Doesn't seem to work. Think you have put one too many http maybe?

What size tank? You could try a deshelled pea? :/

350 litre tank, i have put some peas and cucumber in to see how he goes.

Do you have driftwood for him to munch on? Also a hiding place for him?

No driftwood in the tank yet but he has hiding places under rocks

If it is constipation driftwood may help, sometimes Pleco's will chew on driftwood and get extra fiber from it. I am not sure when you are adding the food but Plecos are nocturnal and unless they are starving only feed at night. I know I can put a few brussels sprouts in mid-afternoon and nothing will be touched when I go to bed, by morning not a trace remains. I read somewhere in the past that lettuce can leach something into the water and therefore should be removed if not consumed in a few hours, but brussel sprouts can be left in the tank overnight. I have never done the shelled pea thing because I think it too much of a pain to shell peas. I feed them algae wafers as a staple.

EDIT: It's a rather large Pleco and therefore can live a few days without food, since you just put him in a new tank Friday maybe he is just stressed due to the new environment and doesn't feel like eating yet. I wouldn't go out and buy every type of food available to try and get him to eat just yet, watch him closely and make sure you're feeding at the right times. Unless you notice any other symptoms or odd behavior I would wait a few days before I got really concerned.

I just smash the peas through a sieve and the perfect size chunks come out.
