Hey everybody! I am going to my Lfs today to pick up some new plants. I wanted to post in this section to get some help to pick some plants out. I have had some bad problems with plants in the past because I did not know what the temperature had to be for them and the sideaffects of the plants. I will give you some discriptions of my tank here they are. [ My temperature is 80.0 degrees and will not go any lower even with the heater unpluged ( so that may cause a problem ) i don't think my tropical fish should eat any plants I get but see my sig for my fish. So thats about it. But my only question is do they need a certain light? And do they need real UV rays I have some real plants in there now and they do fine but I have way to many fake plants. Also I am thinking about using sand or the calsite stuff can plants live in this. Thanks Guys ......... Sorry you had to read so much,

Hi...I am not the superplant expert, but, I can tell you that you shouldn't buy the plants until you know or post what your lightng is and also your tank size. As a minimum, many recommend starting with 2 watts per gallon (minimum). Some plants like I have listed below may survive on very low lighting. Some plants have very high lighting requirements. Post your info here so the aquarists with plants can better help you out. Good luck. SH

Ooops..saw you have a 55 gallon. Many would suggest 100 watts of lighting to start. SH
