Hy guys,

I've been lurking here for sometime. I recently got a Ten gallon tank that i want to start off as a planted tank. I am going to layout my plan please tell if im completely off or sort off. I am a newbie so i am going to do low tech/low light/no CO2 setup

1. clean the tank/ cat litter/ play sand
2. add cat litter to the tank (1cm depth)
3. add plan sand to the tank (2cm depth)
4. add some water (2-3cm?)
5. add the plants
6. fill the tank to the top
7. add Flourish
8. turn the filter and heater on
9. expose the tank to normal household light?
10. after a week, remove 50% of water and refill the tank then add flourish
11. after a week remove 50% of water and refill the tank then add flourish + introduce 2 fish
12. do a weekly water change and add more fish every week till the tank is stocked?

I am hoping that weekly flourish dose will keep the low tech plants happy and growing. Is this feasible? what kind of plants should i add? i am thinking of r crypts/ java fern/ java moss, anubias and vallisneria. how many do i need to buy?

the java moss will go on top of the fake bridge i have.

thanks for the help guys

PS. i am using cat litter because some of you guys suggested in various threads in this section.

You could fishless cycle tank with just substrate then add plants as you do large wc at end. Not sure how plants in effect cycling as fish will be living in the end tank with the plants

Is your filter mature? If not I wouldn't add fish within a week they'll end up dead

@ Juggler

I read the plant resource section, someone suggested we don't have to do fishless cycle if we are going with planted tank.

@ steveo,

I don't have a mature media. How long should wait them? Wait for two weeks? or wait till i see plant growth in the plant?
