Has anyone ever seen their betta hunt or fight?

I saw mine hunting the tetras as soon as i turned the light out and he had his mouth wide open and was chasing them. It was really bizzare. Just wondered if anyone else has seen this before and do bettas only hunt/fight at night times because Midnight seems to be fine during the day when the light is on but at night he goes all aggressive!

Anyway, heres Midnight.

A quick helpful hint:
to make the photos show in your post, use the image link under your pics on the photobucket page. It starts with something like [IMG and is found in the tab below the pic itself.

thats what I do

My betta rests at night, but late morning/early afternoon she's a bundle of energy. My betta will chase live food if that's what you mean.

I have heard of bettas doing this kind of thing. And I think another guy has posted earlier about his Betta eating Cloud minnows and my past betta Jeremy my favorite ever betta hunted and ate shrimp! oh and a SMALL otto he would chase other occupants until they flipped themselves out the tank or he had eaten them!

He was very territorial! lol
:good:

I think midnight is also very territorial! I had the tetras and the guppies in there first then added Midnight and he attacked the guppies so i gave the guppies to a friend and now he chases the tetras(hasnt attacked them physically that i can see) but onyl at night time! The tank is now his territory!

Yeah some males are just a bit more feisty and full of testosterone than others he probably just needs his own space! I wouldnt replace your lost fish I imagine you'll lose a few more if he doesnt like sharing the tank. Alternatively you could get him his own little set up!

Hi, aimsley - Midnight is a gorgeous fish, but it seems he wants to be alone.
I was wondering if you were planning to also move the tetras out?
Because even if he can't catch them, if they're unable to relax and living under stress with a would-be predator in the tank, they may become sick as well as miserable.
I've seen the effect a bully can have on a tank, and it does make the victims, even if not physically injured, more susceptible to illness, just as with humans, only worse as they can't ever get away.
You are probably already planning this, if it's as bad as it sounds, but I thought I'd just mention, in case you hadn't realized how damaging stress can be.

Yes have already moved the tetras out to their own tank and Midnight is now just with the snails and Mrs Pleco. I will soon be making Midnight his own tank so i can put the tetras back in the large tank and add some more guppys as well as some other fish. For now the tetras are in a medium sized tank at a friends house until i can get a decent sized tank for midnight.
