 Looking fab ! Love that riccia covered slate - and the lotus !

thanks george but full credit to you. i would never have achieved it without your help. Thanks again.

by the way those moonlights are great, dont seem to encourage algae either being on for 1.5 hrs a night. i'd definatly recommend them on your tank (you'll only need 1 cold cathode tube) it gives a totally different viewing experience and you wouldn't believe how fast cardinals go to sleep. within 30 seconds i cant see any. theyre gone for dust the second the moonlight comes on, you do get 20 seconds or so of fighting over sleeping quarters as well, quite funny to watch.

Question: How do you do the slate with riccia ?
What's between the slate and riccia and where do you get the net to keep the riccia down ? Are there some "assembly" photos somewhere I can look at ??

sorry way too wet and messy to touch the camera at that stage i'm afraid.

-clean slate
-place riccia on it right to the edges, not too thick, just so you can see bits of slate underneath
-buy a transparrent hairnet (from a chemist, super markets only sell thick brown ones round here)
-place hairnet on top of riccia
-pull tight and tie off on underside of slate
-dump in tank and leave alone for 2 weeks to grow through and conceal the net
-hey presto riccia on slate.....

a 5 year old could do it. it's not hard at all just a bit messy.

do bear in mind it grows really fast. every week you can scoop off enough riccia from the surface to make another, it goes on and on. I could have carpeted the entire base of my 40G by now with the ammount of floating stuff that breaks off.

be prepared for some maintenance, if you ignore it you end up with a thick blanket on the surface cutting off the light to the tank and other plants..

hope that answers your question.

if you want a bag PM me your address, wont be long till i'm next on a clean up mission.

 sounds like a plan to get my arms wet and my few spare pieces of slate out !

Sent you a pm :D

It really is excellent, a very high standard, and good inspiration for me as a learner so to speak.

Yeah i think i would be happy walking past that each day......... :)

What are your tank specs if you dont mind me asking, size, volume, lighting, and filtration.

And the secret of your success as well?.......only joking

Very nice and your water looks absolutley crystel clear.

Superb.

Tank looks stunning, might give the riccia a go but its not easy to get round here [unlike slate lol we got tons of the stuff , mountains of it :D ] Have you tryed it on wood, i take it you would fix it on the same way?

Thats one great looking tank , but there's one thing that bothers me about the set up.

Here's how i'd fix the problem: Take a big axe or a big saw, and cut of that hand rail  JK
