New pets? Water striders!

Hey everyone! I found these little bugs in my greenhouse pond, and I was wondering if they were water striders? If so, how should I care for them so I can have my own colony of them?
I believe they were here from my new addition of river plants

It's hard to tell which type of insect it may be. I've got water striders on the surface of my pool in our backyard.

I saw some oddball water striding bugs last week and wished I had a net. I had never seen surface tension bugs that could sail so fast. I don't know how I'd feed them, but they were amazing creatures.

Google says they hunt live or dead insects on the waters surface, includong mosquito larvae.
When I was a kid they would always appear in our swimming pool in the summer. I would torment my sisters by throwing water striders towards them in the pool. Hehe. Good times.

I read up on these creatures, as I admit, the idea of watching them on a tank had seemed appealing. I don't think I could have a tank large enough for their traveling ways, but they sure are interesting beasts to look up. I was tempted to take a net with me this afternoon when when I went for a paddle, but no. I suspect they could predate surface hugging fry, for one thing. And so, they'll live as free as water striders.

Haha I thought they were weird until baby ones showed up in my own pond, now I think they are neat
I was actually about to post that too, what are the plants with the wavy white pattern? I’m in central California and there was some that got caught with the kayak so I just kept it

I believe so! Was cleaning out a friends pool when I scooped them out and was astonished that they could fly so fast.

What types of other water striding insect groups are there?

I really don't know. I only know the ones we have in our backyard each year. And I do think that they come from the pond we have in our nearby park. Takes a two minute walk to get there.
