I recently got a new oscar. I have had him for about 4 hours in the tank now. Water conditions are good. The oscar slowly swims to one end of the tank and sits there for a while, then swims to the other and sits there again. It also seems to be swimming lopsided at times. Its only about 3 inches.

Is this normal for an oscar being introduced to new territory?

Ok, usual questions - what size tank, water stats for ammonia, nitrIte, nitrAte and temperature and what other fish are in there?

Oscars are characters and quite prone to sulking but always good to rule out any other issues.

ammonia = 0
nitrite = 0
nitrate = 20 or lower
pH=7
temp =80

55gal with 2 3" Green Terrors and just himself the 3" Oscar.
Also a pleco.

Ok, what about filtration? And you do know that a 55 will only be ok for a month or 2 don't you?

Chances are the Oscar is just finding his way, give him some time.

Yeah it isnt a perm home, it was for the GT, well A GT. And 2 filters filtering out 8x the tank capacity.

How is he today? He's probably just sulking about being moved.

They are pretty funny fish. My baby O is hilarious to watch, he is only an inch big, but has already got the begging/tail wagging down to a fine art, and he is such a greedy s$d.

Best of luck with your O, have you got any pics?
