I went to my LFS today and bought some mollies. I bought silver mollies, a balloon molly, dalamation molly, and a gold dust molly. Never saw or heard of gold dust mollies and I have a balloon molly how can I tell if she is pregnant I think she might be. Any advice? I was so excited because Ive been looking for silvers. Anything you can tell me about the gold dust mollies they are smaller that the other mollies about the size of guppies. Will they get as big as the silver and black mollies I have?

Hi.

If you view them from above and they are looking very fat then they may be pregnant. Also take a read on this link please.

I also provide a thread to help you judge the stage of a molly. I have a link to it in my signature area called "My molly's Progress". Unlike the thread by Livebearer Master, it follows a molly through the entire cycle from a drop to the next. The idea is not to judge a snapshot of your molly, but to learn to judge a molly based on the shapes that it takes on at different points in the complete cycle. Simple size comparisons can be misleading and differences in simple things like feeding can throw you off on the shape viewed from above or from a side view. I am one of those people who really hates breeder traps so you won't find any in my pictures. I am well aware that many successful breeders like and use the traps so I believe that it comes down to my personal preference, not a condemnation of the traps.

Thats a main point, every fish is different and its all about knowing your fish.

Always a great idea as well to write down drop dates and keep the logs.
