Hello and may I say what a find. This forum is great. I have been reading some of the threads and finding it very interesting.
I used to keep tropical fish around 10 years ago but due to having to move to a tiny flat I gave the hobby up. Now I have a 7 year old son and a bigger place I have bought myself a new tank. It is a 39 gal aquaone 620t which I have had running for 2 months now. It is fully cycled and I have some community fish, a few live plants and about 50 snails GRRRRRRRR. I never had a snail problem before and have added 2 Assassin snails in the hope that they will sort this problem out for me. Do you think I need more assassins or will the two of them keep the numbers down ?
Thanks Jezza

welcome to the forum!

if they are malaysian trumpet snails (have they got pointy cone shells?) then they will breed A LOT. More assassins would be needed to keep the number in check. Another thing to help would be to reduce the amount you are feeding. MTS do very well when there is a lot of spare food in the tank.

Hi and thank you for the welcome ZoddyZod. I have spent quite a while looking on the forum and finding out quite a bit. On the MTS problem I may get some more assassins at the weekend.
News flash
I was looking in my tank this morning and one of my guppys who is very pregnant was tucked in behind the heater with her head down and 2 males were nipping at her. I popped her in my Marina fry trap and within five minuites there was one little fry in there. Nothing happened for the next half hour and then she started again so I now have 24 little guys in my fry trap. The mother is doing fine. I popped her into my hommade frytrap and gave her some food and released her 2 hours later. She is nice and skinny now but the males are after her now.... What a little tart she is :)

Welcome to the forum! Congrats on the fry, i remember when i had my first gppy fry.

Thanks Crazy. I will have a look on here and see if anyone has a bright idea of a way to get the little bits of debris off of the bottom of the fry trap without disturbing the little fry too much.

Syphon it out with a piece of airline :good:
