Hi folks just like to introduce myself my name is Dave I am new to this hobby so any advice would be greatly welcome.

I have not bought a tank yet, as with any new hobby I have allways found it best to get as much information as possible before starting as mistakes can be costly.

I have been looking at the Aquience 550s cub tank and would looking to stock it with small fish Tetra,Guppy, platy, but no more than 10 to start with.

I have also read that you need to cycle the tank over a few weeks.

Any advice will be taken on board.

Dave

to cycle ur tank:

1. fill ur tank with water.
2. add dechlorinater.
3. add filter and turn on.
4. add heater and turn to required temp.
5. (optional) add filter start to the filter.
6. if you dont use filter start leave for 2-4 weeks.
7. if u do use filter start 1-1 and a halp weeks will do.

Unfortunately, cycling a tank isn't as easy as you say Noahs ark6

Welcome to the forum Dave :D

Hopefully, this thread on cycling your tank can help you, Dave and 'Noah ark6', to understand how to 'properly' cycle a tank

Er...Noahs ark...

I'm sorry, but just letting the tank run is not cycling it...
If you're not adding a source of ammonia to feed the bacteria on, you won't get any bacteria growing.

Dave, have a read of the 'fish-less cycling' article in the beginners resource centre that biffster has posted the link to (Noahs ark; maybe you should have a read through it too...)

Doing a fish-less cycle is the absolute best way to achieve success in this hobby.

yes then it can have your
full attention as you will
need to add ammonia every
12 to 24 hrs along with the
water testing as well
