Sorry to hear of your losses

Cloudy eyes are a common side effect of poor water quality, yes, but they can get better. Keep up the water changes and keep your fingers crossed is really all you can do at this stage.

Thanks. I really thought both of the bottom sitters were pulling through. I'll see what today brings.

It really does make me question carrying on with keeping fish. It's been great having them and watching them swimming around in the tank, but this episode has been a bit soul destroying through my own ignorance and misinformation from others. I really am loathe to give up the remaining three that I have left, but I know it is for the best for them. Is it almost too late for them after having been in this tank for the best part of a year, or would they start to grow as they should in a bigger tank?

Most fish will start to grow again once they're in a larger tank, although they probably won't reach the size they would have done and probably won't live quite as long (a goldie's normal lifespan is around 15 or 20 years).

I can totally understand your frustration, but fishkeeping is a great hobby, and really not that hard, if (and, tbf, it's is a big 'if'!) you have the correct knowledge and information to start with.

Of course, with any kind of livestock, there will be problems; comes with the territory!
