New tank installed 3 weeks ago, fully cycled, Eheim Vivaline 240ltr, Eheim professional 4+600 external filter, Eheim Bioball 200 (temporary for cycling) plus sponge filter, also first time attempting a planted tank with JBL plant soil below the substrate, fish added so far, 2 x Corys, 1 x platy and a few Assassin snails for the obligatory non guests, will be adding fish over the next 4-5 weeks, Rummy Noses, Glowlights, Neon Tetras, Panda Corys, Mollies, Bettas, for the size of the tank I'm looking to increase my current stock, maybe a couple of feature fish and loads of Tetras varieties, open to suggestions

Welcome to the forum! :hi:

Nice looking tank. Do you plan to add more plants/hard scape?

Welcome. Please don't add mollies into this tank stick with tetras, assuming your tank has a pH below 7.

In Norwich UK the water is likely to be hard-very hard so the mollies would do well, but the tetra, cories and betta will not.
@Macmcc2623 will you use your tap water and can you find out the General Hardness (the number and unit), which should be on your water suppliers website as a Water Quality report?

Interesting, so maybe Mollies not Tetras. That will limit the choices of fish some what.

Very nice looking tank. Definitely test your water conditions before choosing fish. It can be detrimental. If the water is hard and you have soft water fish, the fish will die of kidney failure. And also if hard water fish are kept in softwater. The PH is led of a concern BUT make sure it is stable. You do not want it going up and down a lot. That is known as PH swings, which could kill the fish.

Simply enter your postcode on this page
and it will bring up a map with an information box on top of it. You need the number for "mg/l (or parts per million) calcium carbonate" and the number for Degrees German. These are the two units used in fish keeping.

Currently using tap water with aqua safe additives and RO water, had Tetras x 25 (various) all thriving well, betta and corys all okay, Cory's have spawned eggs four times in a year, water-changes 7-10 days and a deep clean 12-14 days. Just to dispell any worries, my partner is a retired laboratory microbiologist with a knowledge of water testing and is constantly checking all our aquariums

Since you are using RO water, that's good for everything except mollies. They need hard water.
