Down a dark hole... Down a dark hole... with an ow
Hi There ppl!

I bought 2 new kribs yesterday, and the LFS had a few. It took 45mins to net the ones i wanted (the best male (larger) and the best female in the shop). It was ok, the LFS knew me quite well, iv spent 100s there and they dont mind.....

Man they are lovely fish, and the 2 have bonded in my tank already......
The female has a almost flouresent pink tummy, and the male has bright red and yellow borders to the fins.....

Excellent fish.....

Just thought id share it! :D

EDIT + PICS

congrats on the new tankmates! I think they will look awesome in your set up which i just viewed... GOOD LUCK mating em!

Nice one, cheers for that....

I have noticed that already the female is glowing bright pink and showing the larger male her belly, alot.....

The Male also, whenever doing this weird ritual thingy, spasms and shakes and his fins stand up on end.... almost trying to entice the female....

Does anybody elses male do this spasm twitchy thing around the female, and it is only when the female is about...?

They are doing well and looking great...... I recommend this fish to anyone!
Il get some pics on here soon....

Expect a spawn in the next few days, and then all hell will break loose

heya :D i'ts great becuase soon you'll see the female "vibrating" back, adn then they'll vibrate with each other and show off they're pretty colors, adn then you'll see eggs and hatchlings!

gotta love kirbs :)

fry? are you kidding me

they came from different tanks at the LFS and have only been in mine for 24 hours.could they really be getting it on that quickly?

should I invest in a fry net, or be running my filter for my quarantine tank?surely my pictus would eat them :(

I quite like the idea of fry  but not sure if I should be making preperations for the happy arrival or if you 'orrible lot are winding me up :sly:

HELP!

They will probably indeed lay eggs in the next few days.
Mine also took only a few days.
If it is in any way possible, you should leave the fry with the parents. They show such amazing parental behaviour!!
My krib pair has eggs now too, and there are 7 fry of about a month old in there with them, this makes for a great spectacle :)

Hi ya,

I got back from work and took some pics.....
They dont really do them any justice - colours wise, i gues they are camera shy :)

Let me know what you think!
I included the tank too..... ;)

thanks for the replys

I have wanted kribs for some time now, finally my best LFS got some in. Only got the two but I think Im addicted :D Thanks for all the advice I have recieved. It is much appreciated.

will let you know if I get the pitter patter of tiny fins :)

I have that exact same plastic root thing in my krib tank! Mine have laid their eggs inside of the cave-like hole in the top of the fake roots. I haven't managed to get them to care for the eggs until they hatch though. I think they are either inexperienced and haven't figured it all out or the female could be infertile because she is albino. I dunno. Your kribs look great! Are they full grown?

The male is pretty much fully grown..... he is nearly 3", the female is around 1.5-2" so she has some growing to do.

That pic doesnt do the male justice - i think il try and take some more pics of the male with his colours out more :)

Well, they are both doing the vibrator thingy now.... and the male is shooing off the gouramis when they come near that plastic root thingy.... and yes, they have decided that is their cave.....
Im not suprised really, its the only cave that isnt being occupied by my pictus, a plec or, o yes... more pictus......

So what am i looking out for - how do i know they have spawned? i mean, they have paired up and have done the vibrator thing for a few days now.... admittadly, the male is getting a little more narky now, but the pair still go on trips around the tank?
I am getting quite excited! What am i watching for, as i cant see inside that root thing i have?

Also, if the fry do make it, i dont hold out much hope for them as there are 4 pictus in the tank.
I went to my LFS to buy a breeding net and he refused to sell me one! he said they would be useless as the kribs bring up the fry themselves, and are egg layers. He said either to let them get on with it in my tank or try and breed them in a 2' tank.
I really dont want to stick 2 semi-aggressive cichlids in my 8.2UKGal....

Anyhow, im gonna take some more pics......

Il keep you updated on the situation :)

He he! :D

Some more pics, the male is getting more colourful day by day.....

Im gonna take some more tonight whilst feeding and then stop, as i feel im being a tad sad, taking all these pics of my new fish......
Admittedly also, slighty insane :S

The happy couple on a lap of the tank-
