hello every one on fish forum. u sed to be in the hobby of keeping fish but i never hated dealing with green water and all the alage. so i got in to dart frogs. but i am still intersted in getting a fish tank set up. i kept tropical fish before. but i am interested in saltwater fish and wondering what conditions they need. ect.. also i was thinking about cichlids also

if you would like a saltwater or cichlid tank, bigger is better (in regards to water capacity). What size tank do you have or are planning to have? Cichlids need at least a 55 gallon to be happy just for one fish. Saltwater tanks need a large water capacity in order to create enough of a buffer for water changes (these ecosystems are more sensitive to changes)

55 gallon would probably be your best bet. A saltwater aquarium of course requires more of an initial investment, but for most people, has the most reward. I initially wanted a 55 gallon saltwater aquarium, but I do not have a live fish store near me that sells saltwater fish anymore.

A 55 gallon cichild community tank is a very popular set up and can be extremely customizable. I found that using crushed coral in your substrate can help maintain a high ph (around 8 and add a lot of kH to your water that cichlids love). I would just look at your pet store for aquarium kits as they often offer many deals.

Dude , you are severly mis-informed. You can keep 12 Malawi's in a 55 g. Or more, depends on w/c and set up. You could keep a pair of kribensis cichlids ( which is a must have fish) in a 10 g tank as long as they are the only 2 fish in thier, and you put the babies in a diffferent tank. There are sooo many cichlids you could keep in a 30g or below.
