So after i moved out i left a 56 gallon column with stand heater and all the other bits and peices... didnt have room for it im my current house (75 gallon florida softshell tank, small 8 gallon, and dog...) so i was bored a month or two ago and started cleaning the 56 gallon and started the mini cycle it would need for fish... (my parents were sick of not having anything in it...) so cycle was over and now its time to figure out exactly what my parents want in it... had some ideas... but they option they picked surprised me... my dad feel in LOVE with a Red Devil (most likely hybrd)

So Heres Brutis my parents new 5 inch Baby...

i know they can be hard to sex but any help would be great...

not a tone of plants to hid but he likes the two big back ones...

Skitish but will still try to show ya whos boss...

I did his first water change yesterday... after being in there since tuesday... all his stats are staying steady... he's being feed Hikari Cichlid Staple (thats what he was fed in store..) and some Krill once a week and i tried some veggies too but he didnt take to them (tried lettuce and peas) anyone have luck with different veggies? or should i just keep trying... want to introduce other meaty foods but i am afraid Brutis will shy away from his pellets..

any other suggestions for his tank and scape? he does have a bigger tank already i am upgrading my turtle tank so he will have the 75 alone as soon as i decide what tank i want for the turtle... so no worries there... and i know as he/she grows to remove some more plants for more swimming space...

the only place somewhat local for driftwood of bog wood has some kind of parisite in the woods so i havent found anywhere else local that sells it so i will keep looking... (3 difference thanks that dont cross paths all had the parisite!)

lol oh yes i know this... but he's got some growing and my turtles 75 gallon after that until he gets something very big... local store has pretty good deals on 120 and 150 (thats what im thinking for my turtle)

Its such a shame they all grow, I need a bigger turtle tank too, and bigger fish tanks, and a bigger house look forward to seeing pics of him growing up

lol ya i know... just ill keep pictures coming has Brutis grows... ive seen full grown ones but it will be nice to watch...

A nice fish ! I'd guess he is a male, from general body shape. And his nuchal hump is slightly more prominent than I would expect a female of that size. Glad you have plans for a larger tank for him.

As for veggies. My Midas and flowerhorns all completely ignore "real" veg (well, my big FH occasionally eats a bit of pea). They seem to like Ocean Nutrition cichlid veggie pellets and Tetra veggie pro wafers though, so I give them plenty of that to keep the fibre intake up.
I haven't had them for that long though, so hopefully I may be able to entice them with proper green stuff in time.
