iv had my new halfmoon for several days now and i cant seem to get him to eat. iv tryd pellets (Wardley essentials, betta food) and blood worms (Tetrafauna, ReptoTreat, delica bloodworms). any ideas? i really dont want him to die. he's really pretty. that and halfmoons are incredibly rare. i have a few female guppies, i thought about buying a male so they will mate and i can feed the fry to my bettas. the idea behind that is that live food is better.
he looked very healthy when i brought him home. he still looks decent except now he was some of that white discoloration that they get sometimes, its on his front fins, the ones that hang down... i dont know what they are called. its not ich, im quite sure of that. his water should be just fine. its a brand new tank, cleaned, and the water is new and conditioned... he is the only inhabitant so i dont think that he alone could have created that much of a bioload in a few days, particularly since he's not eating. the only other thing i can think of is that the water out of the tap has a very high pH. ill try and lower that today if its still too high, noramlly it levels out on its own somehow. i put him in a bare 5.5 gallon tank to start off with for QT purposes. maybe i should add some decor to liven things up in case he's depressed. that is kinda funny that fish can be moody, i never really knew they were so personable until i started this hobby. ill make some adjustments and let y'all know if things have improved by tomorrow night
