i had a trip to the LFS today to pick up some white spot treatmentbut i couldn't help but go have a peek at the fish, the tank straight opposite the door is where they keep there females, so i went over to have a look at them and was quite horrified to see a male in there with them, he just sat in the corner, i thought he was dead at first but then he swam to the front as if to say help, i told the guy they should never be kept together except for breeding and he would either end up with a dead male or dead females, but all he said was he's fine he can stick up for himself so he came home with me, he is now exploring his 2.5 gallon bowfront
will get some pictures for you later

oh and hes a red VT

Thats sad why no one cares

good thing u saved him!

You should've told that guy off. I swear... what's up with these good for nothing employees that don't want to listen!
At leat you got him though! Can't wait to see some pics.

i had the feeling he thougth i knew nothing because i'm 16  he is loving his new home and keeps coming to the side where i am sitting its so cute

and my mum wasn't to happy to see him, but after i told her why i got him she felt sorry for him and was glad i got him

why is it that folk who work in pet stores think they know it all and that customers dont have a clue.

i was just in pets at home and saw a gorgeous plackat male in with a bunch of girls, i waited ages to get served, wanting to buy him and a couple of the girls, but was told the tank was under treatment for whitespot and it could be a month till they are on sale again. they said to try the specialist aquarium store a few miles away and when i told em that ive had problems with the bettas ive been getting from there she tried to give me a lecture on the nitrogen cycle and ammonia levels.
gets up my nose those pet shop assistant "think they know it alls"

sorry, rant over

So do you want the employees to stand there and not tell you anything? GOD, people complain that these people don't know #### and are idiots, then when an employee DOES know something and tries to educate the customer, they are called "know it alls". Why don't YOU try working at a fishstore, and have to put up with all the idiots who come in knowing absolutely nothing, then when you give advice they shrug it off and get 8 goldfish for their 2 gallon anyways....
RANT OVER.

i agree tottally with meg the fish on this one. i had to work hard to get a reputation of being a good employee at a fish store, not because i didnt no a thing aobut fish, but because i am 16. i hate how age must always play a facter in thise. thank u meg for standing up for fish employees ! :)
now im that im known, i get a little respect, and also that half the fish (freshwater wise atleast) are my babies i spawned myslelf , including the rams :)
im not saying that all the employees are good, but some like me (if ull forgive my lack of modisty, very rude of me, but its true) know about fish needs, and the care required. soo, yep :D
and by the way, im sorry to change the subject of ur post, but i had to say it .
and congrats on standing up to him, and getting the fish... that was a good thing to do, i cant wait for pictures, and my anger wasnt directed towards u at all :)

Hey, I'm 16 too, and you pretty much just took the words out of my mouth, your so right, you kind of have to gain respect from the adults and work hard to get a "yes I am knowledgable about fish" reputation. And thats so awesome that you breed the store's fish, I just took the next step up too, now I get to do the fish orders each week. No more irredescent sharks, chinese aglea eaters, and common plecos, whoot! That just goes to show you that teenagers can be responsible!

yep, it was hard work wasnt it meg?
(definitly get rams , there amazing fish!!! haha)
yah! for being responsible!!! but it aint always fun......
doing a hundred whaterchanges SUCKS!!!!
but its worth it!

lilfishie, i have aquestion though?
how many bettas have u rescued? mabey i should do that at petsmart, i have plenty tanks for them. do u keep ur bettas with anything?

i have worked in a pet store, and a falconry centre, where i had all manner of idiots to talk to. it just annoys me when a blonde bimbo who has a bit of paper that says she has done an animal husbandry course trying to lecture me on something she is regurgetation from a text book, its not advice and it pees me off royaly!! im constantly apaulled by the idiots that pets-at-home emploly. you get the odd diamond in the rough, but most of them havent a scooby, but think they know it all coz they work in a pet store! but they wont give someone like me the time of day because ive not cot the colleges bits of paper, depite having 14 years experiance with fish (tropical and cold water), various small furries and aver 30 species of cage bird!!

oh, and im only 21, so im not much older than you. i had to earn my respect as a teenager when i was breeding cage birds
