Ok...so I bring a new female guppy home as I felt that two males to two females may not be so wise so thought...one more female...safer!
She acclimatised well with no problems. Used my usual Nutrafin Aqua plus to deal with stress, etc!
She immediately hid and then just 'swam by the filter' but her caudal fin was turned almost in an L-Shape with her body. She then swam - straight with no problems and proceeded to hide slightly.
She's been hiding the rest of the time and I've been keeping a close eye on her. One of the males has been very close to her and I was worried he was stressing her out, just now though all of the other four guppies (and just the 4 guppies not the other fish) started really going for her!
I whipped her out of the tank and put her back into isolation, thank god I brought another one today as Sphinx is in the other one! She suddenly went very dark internally and her caudal fin has been badly damaged.
I don't think she'll make it but I need to know why this happened. I've never seen this before and my guppies are generally very peaceful.
Any ideas as to how I could help her...if at all....and any idea why this happened. I'm quite distraught about this as it was quite horrific to watch! I really felt for her actuallly.

Forgot to say - amonia, nitrite and nitrate 0-0.2
pH 7.5-8
Tank mates - 6 Neon Tetras, 2 Columbian Tetra, 1 Diamond Tetra, 2 Platties, 1 suckermouth catfish, one algae eating shrimp. the four other guppies.

Clamped fins are a sign of stress, and going dark in colour can mean a bacteria infection, what does it look like when she goes to the toilet.

Normal, like the others.
The black has only just come on...literally.
The fins aren't clamped against thr body as such, it was just the caudal fin that had been bent round the body meaning it was in an L-shape

I don't understand why she was attacked like this though and only by the guppies. She'd been fine in her isolation previous to being added to the main tank.

To be honest same as you say it dosn't sound to good, can you issolate her completely and try a bacteria med.

She is completely isolated away from Sphinx and by herself in an environment as stress-free as possible. I don't want to go back into that room as I think she'll be gone. It's so strange how they all just hated her from the start. It isn't good. The black only came on when she was being nibbled at and attacked. She had been absolutely fine until she was put in the main community tank.

Seen some bactrial infection where they darken and bleed on the fins and underneath the skin.

Would the guppies pick on her if they sensed she was not well?? Could the attack have brought on the black insides as it's only appeared since then. I don't have any bacteria med in stock either so this is not looking good.

Yes they can sense when a fish is ill, could of been the reason.

She's still alive but now swimming upright, with her head at the top and her caudal fin resting on the bottom of the tank. Her caudal fin is quite shredded in one area. I feel so helpless.
I'm used to nursing fish that come to me ill back to health....not had a fish come to me who I think is healthy who then gets dangerously ill and gets mauled.

She's had it i'm afraid, sorry, the move wouldn't of helped with the stress, sounds like she was already ill, and things have just moved on quicker with the move, sorry.

I knew that was the case really. Just needed to hear it a guess!
I'm not used to this....and I don't plan on getting used to it either.
Do I risk trying to get another? Or not?

Do some water changes in the tank she's been in, than get another one, i've looked afer sick animals not a nice job, and you are no good if you do get used to it, good luck.

I'm already doing a water change!!!
I just feel so sorry for her being atacked like that and feel so helpless.
As I said getting sick fish in and nursing them back to health is one thing...this is completely different.
What's worse is that two little girls picked her out for me and are coming to see her in the morning......
