We bought some new guppies a few weeks ago and added them to our community tank they bought with them a nasty case of ich, finally the ich has gone but it was not without casualties, we lost 3 guppies and a Molly. So I have set up our 10g and yesterday we bought 3 new guppies, my question is how long should I keep them in the 10 g before moving them to the big tank, would 2 weeks be enough. They all look happy and healthy but obviously do not want a repeat of last time.

2 weeks is a good quarentine time for most animals and fish. They will show signs of illness by then.

Perfect thanks for the reply, do not think my nerves could stand another outbreak of anything in the community tank, bad enough I am watching 2 pregnant guppies like a hawk as well as almost hourly checks on all fish to make sure the ich spots have not returned.

When looking to buy new fish, spend plenty of time observing them.
Ask the staff about their filter system.
A lot of chain Lfs use a single filter system for all their tanks, so if you see sick fish in one tank, it's likely all the fish could be infected.
A 2 week quarantine should be enough to make sure they're ok

Thanks, we have quite a few fish stores around and have bought fish from a few of them without any problems at all in the past, just so happens I guess that our luck ran out so now I am paranoid. The store we bought the guppies from yesterday is a really nice store all the guppies looked amazing even the females were brightly colored not one fish in there looked sick but better to be safe than sorry.
